Jansen Y asked:

I have a Ping Hoofer standup bag. There is a pouch on the left that is completely zipped shut but no zipper head to pull. Does it come like this or do I need to take it to a tailer and have them put a zipper head on

How to Choose a Golf Bag Travel Cover

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Mike Pedersen asked:

You should choose a golf bag travel cover according to your needs. Everybody’s needs are different, and you should check out the pros and cons of the hard travel covers and the soft. There are times when the hard cover is best and others when you would be easier with the soft one.

If you fly a lot, you would be well advised to get yourself a hard travel cover for your golf bag and clubs. These covers can be thrown about a bit by baggage handlers, no matter how many ‘fragile’ stickers you put on them. On the other hand if you only travel occasionally by car, you will find a soft golf travel cover provides sufficient protection, especially if packed properly, and is also lighter and easier to travel with.

Check out the Other Features

The common features that you should be looking out for include padding for your club heads, to prevent them hitting against each other and getting damaged, and decent strapping that secures your golf bag inside, so preventing it banging around inside and damaging the club shafts.

Other things that are of use are external strapping to hold a small carry case or laptop case, secure pockets for shoes and a good set of handles. Many people forget that they have to carry the travel cover to the car, load it into the boot and pull it out again. A good set of straps makes that easier. The wheels should also be fairly large and quite robust. You don’t want them buckling or sticking when you are walking through airport terminals

If you are Alone then too Much Luggage can be a Problem

You must keep in mind that unless you have others to help you, you will have a golf travel cover in one hand and a suitcase in the other. Any other baggage you have will be a problem. Your travel cover should have has much storage space as possible. If you can get one that takes a change of clothing plus a few toiletries for one or two nights, then that would be great. You could then dispense with at least one suitcase, and your golf case could be the only luggage you have with you.

All of these extras, and more, such as coolers with chill packs, are good but you must not take your mind off the whole reason for having a golf bag cover: it is for protection during travel. So assess the amount of traveling you expect to do and choose your bag from that. Lots of flying demands a hard cover and if you are mostly driving, or perhaps flying only once a year, you should find a les expensive soft cover is your best option.

Some Travel Covers will fit onto your Golf Buggy

There are cases to be made for each option, so once you have decided that, then check out all the other options that are available to you; the customization, the color and so on. If you opt for the soft cover, you may be able to use it out on the golf course without having to take your golf bag out. That saves a bit of work and also gives your clubs added protection. You can fit them to your cart or golf buggy, and you don’t even have to carry them around the golf course.

There is a lot of choice available to you when you are shopping for a golf bag travel cover, and lots of makers supply a range to suit their own range of golf bags. It’s best to match your cover with your golf bag which assures you of a perfect fit, than to try to fit a golf bag by one maker into a cover produced by another.

Make sure you know what you want then go and get it. You are going to have it for a long time so make the right choice.

The Importance of Balance on your Golf Swing

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Golf Gift asked:

Mastering the art of the golf swing could be complicated and challenging, and you are most probably trying to improve yours. There are a couple of very simple errors in balance that most people make but can easily be avoided. Here are two simple tips on improving your balance and golf swing, as well as correct the basic slip-ups that you could be doing.

1. A Good Setup, A Good Balance, A Good Swing

A good tip for improving your golf swing would be improving your setup. A lot of golfers do not have a good balance because they started off from a bad setup. If you have a good and solid setup, you would be able to keep balanced as you swing. Maintaining your balance would give you a solid swing plane as well as a good pivot. Make sure keep your whole body under control during your setup so you could improve your balance and swing.

2. Swinging Too Hard

Although having great distance is essential, having perfect control of your swing is equally important. What usually happens is since you want distance, you give your all you can when you swing. This causes you to wheel around and lose your balance, as you swing too hard. What you would need to do is trust your club. It is already designed to send the ball to great lengths so you would need to focus on making your swing as solid, as steady and as balanced as possible to stay in the fairway.

The Importance of a Good Golf Bag!

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Hans Hasselfors asked:

Few things are more important to a golfer than a good golf bag. First off, golf bags come in many styles and a wide variety of colors. You can choose a bag for style, features or pick a color to match your mood.
Some have legs that fold out when they are placed on the ground and stand upright so the golfer doesn’t have to bend down and pick it up. That’s a nice feature in golf bags, especially if the golfer tends to walk the course, as many do. There is plenty of bending to be done when a golfer is trying to remove an obstacle from around his or her ball, or to get the ball out of the cup, so any way to avoid bending over is more than appreciated.
All golf bags have compartments where the golf clubs are to be placed. Each golfer has his or her own way of doing this and putting clubs where he or she wants them. Some golfers, though, are lazy and just stick their clubs in the compartments, grabbing whichever one they want when a particular club is needed. But, some golf bags have tubes to protect the club grips. These are nice to have. With the tubes, a golfer can get his or her clubs out easier. The clubs are never tangled up, and the grips last a lot longer.
Another important factor in choosing a golf bag is the number of pockets it has. Frankly, there’s no such thing as too many pockets in a golf bag. First, one of the pockets will be used to hold the golf bag’s hood. The hood is used to keep the clubs and bag from getting drenched when it rains. Another pocket will be used to keep extra towels (believe it or not, extra towels are important in the summer to keep the sweat off the brow and out of the eyes, along with keeping the hands relatively dry. Then, there is the pocket used for keeping the extra golf tees and possibly the divot tool. Finally, a pocket is needed for the golf balls themselves, and it doesn’t hurt to have a pocket to carry another dozen balls in, just in case.
Some courses are so difficult it is easy to lose a lot of balls during 18-holes of play. This makes having an extra box of balls around a good thing, but there has to be somewhere in the golf bag to keep them, which means another pocket.
Imagine trying to play golf without a bag. The golfer would be constantly stooping over picking up clubs, tees, balls, towels and the divot tool. Then he or she would have to walk to the ball, drop all of the clubs and stuff, select a club, hit the ball, and start the process all over again. It would be a major pain in the neck, and would make it nearly impossible to finish playing a round of golf. So, golf bags are an essential part of the game of golf.

Prepare yourself Physically for Golf

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Golf Gift asked:

Most people would think that golf hardly requires any physical exertion. However, an 18-hole round could definitely take a toll on your mind and body. Improving your physical fitness could help you to improve your consistency, concentration, balance and the strength of your swing.

You need not start a full-blown fitness routine in hopes of making your game better. Here are some things that any golf player could effortlessly do to get in shape physically for the next game.

1. Strength

Although you can always spend time in the gym bulking yourself up to hit the ball to the far ends of the earth, this is not always necessary. To improve your strength for playing golf specifically, it is advisable to do exercises that will improve your swing. You can do some rotational exercises using weights in various positions, which could improve not only your core strength, but also your balance, flexibility and control.

2. Flexibility

This is one of the aspects that a lot of people have to work on as most golf players neglect to do a proper warm-up before a game or before a round. Doing a couple of stretching exercises and swings using a two clubs or one heavy club could help in loosening up your muscles and joints and eventually help you in performing better at your game.

3. Endurance

There are also several ways to enhance your endurance, however, if you want to improve your endurance specifically for playing golf, all you need to do would be a bit of walking. Although this is already what players do when they are out on the course but if you are able to walk longer distances without being too exhausted then you would be able to keep the quality of your swing consistent - whether you are on the first hole or the last hole.

You need not be a health buff to get in great physical shape for playing golf. You would just need to do a couple of simple and basic exercises from time to time and eventually, not only will you be physically fit for golf but you might also be able to improve your game.
